Grindsystem

English below

One thing to do in the fall is to make the sheep house ready for winter. Our sheep barn is an old building not suitable for modern machine handling. We have to use hand power to remove  manure for next winter. The management of the sheep during the winter is under the conditions of the sheep. In other words our sheep can use their time as they wish, inside or outside the sheep’s barn. Our gating  and feeding partare made by the farms blacksmith, aka master or DH. Gates of iron has to be painted every two years. This year is a painting year. Fortunately we can take the gates indoors for painting and drying, and the gates dry more quickly than if we have had to do it in the barn.

Except for painting gates the walls are going to be chalked to make the barn a little lighter and more hygienic to our ewes. That work has been done by DH who, after the walls have dried, can mount the feed slots. The sheep’s barn is soon usable as winter residence, in refreshed condition, if not in new condition. Grandmother’s and grandfather’s  house for their animals, can be saved for a time, before time has come for us to build a new home for our sheep.
